On Saturday, November 13, 2010 from 5:00pm – 9:00pm at the Kohala Coast Fine Art Gallery in the Kings’ Shops Waikoloa Beach Resort there will be an Artist Reception and sale so OBSCENE that we had to call it The Kona Coffee Confidential. In celebration of the not-quite-30th birthday of local artist Stephanie Bolton, the Kohala Coast Fine Art gallery will be selling new & original artwork by Bolton for not-quite-$300! This event offers extraordinary savings to the art collector, so if you have had your eye on Bolton’s artwork, you won’t want to miss this show.

“[Stephanie Bolton’s work] has become a signature for Holualoa and Kona Coffee” said Kathleen Akaka at Art in the Park, July 2008. Bolton has shown her coffee inspired artwork at the Kona Coffee Art & Cultural Festival Events for the last 6 years, establishing herself as a favorite among event goers to this festival. Last year, the real working label she designed for Luana Farms came in second place in the coffee label competition. “”There are paintings of Stephanie’s that make me fall in love with coffee, with Hawaii, … What a pleasure it’s been to watch her artwork mature so much in just the few years I’ve been following it.” Says Shawn Steiman author of The Hawai’I Coffee Book: A Gourmet’s Guide from Kona to Kauai, “Stephanie’s paintings embody the fantasy and romance of Kona coffee.”

At the reception, refreshments will be served and the artist will be present for you to meet. Nine new paintings on wood will be on display. Bolton was raised on the Big Island and still lives in Holualoa. Bolton says, “Most of my neighbors, my family, and many of my collectors are coffee farmers… its no wonder coffee makes its way into my artwork. I love Kona coffee, I drink it just about every morning- it’s the best!”

Fresh & New

it feels so good to a little summer cleaning!

My studio was in dire need of clean sweep- it looked like it was hit by a tornado.

Glad I don't have a before shot- it was EMBARRASSING!

But now it feels good in here & I would welcome you in with no reservations ;)

(If you still think it looks cluttered- well then I am very glad I did not take a before shot! You just have to believe me that this is a vast improvement!)

This is a new student. We are learning how to use acrylic paints.

Third Generation Artist

In case some of you wonder what I mean when I say I am a third generation artist...

Both of grandmother's did artwork.

My father's mother painted large abstract murals- I have never seen one.

But on occasion when I was little my Dad would look at artwork I was creating and freak out because it looked just like some of the artwork his mother used to make, artwork I had never & still have never seen.

My mother's mother painted mostly wall art in oils. She did tons of portraits.

She painted our whole big Sicilian family multiple times:

I think each of her 14 grandchildren have a hallway in their home where you can see them grow up on canvas (age 3, age, 6, age, 12, etc.)

She also did many sepias of Hollywood movie stars (some are on display at the Lighthouse Cinema in Pacific Grove, California).

My Mother owned art supply stores when I was growing up. I was an art store brat- always hanging around the frame room & sitting in on classes from the several instructors who taught there. She always liked to try lots of different styles & mediums- she did not sell her work, creating art was a pastime.

My father is an architect, sculptor, and amazing artist.
